Maple Bread Pudding

The website of the Ontario maple syrup people, ontariomaplesyrup.com, is loaded with enticing recipes. From the beginning of the meal to the sweetest endings, there’s a fascinating variety of maple tastes. I picked this one and the next from the long list.

Serves
4-6

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 tbsp butter

3 slices bread without the crusts

1/2 cup nutmeat or raisins

1 tsp lemon juice

2 eggs

2 cups milk

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp vanilla

Method/Steps

Pour maple syrup into the top of a double boiler. Butter each slice of bread and cube them.

Add to syrup then add nuts or raisins and juice. Beat together eggs, milk, salt and vanilla and pour over the bread mixture. Do not stir.

Set over gently boiling water. Cook 1 hour. This will make its own sauce. Serve in a small bowl and spoon a good amount sauce over each serving.

Wine and Spirits Match

I’ve always enjoyed a smooth Canadian whiskey with my syrupy treats.
