Ham and Fontina Sandwiches
Ingredients
3 pears
2 Tbsp butter
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground coriander
1/4 tsp ground ginger
4 thin slices pumpernickel bread
1/2 lb cooked ham, thinly sliced
1 cup grated fontina cheese
Method/Steps
1. Core, peel and cut 2 of the pears lengthwise into 1/4 inch thick slices. In a large frying pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in cinnamon, coriander and ginger. Add pear slices; cook gently, turning often, until lightly browned, 10 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
2. Arrange bread slices on a large baking sheet. Top each with 1/4 of the ham, 1/4 of the pear slices and 1/4 of the cheese. Broil sandwiches 4 inches from the heat, until cheese is bubbling, about 5 minutes.
3. Core and thinly slice remaining pear. transfer sandwiches to plates. Place fresh pear slices alongside.
