In a time when some of us are wondering what next year will bring, it’s nice to talk about the future. But not in a “yes we can” kind of way. That’s a little too 2009. Instead I’d like to talk about a milestone coming round the corner.

Next year is very special to us at the magazine. We’re not only working on one of the most innovative food and wine magazine in North America, we’re working on one that has close to 300 issues banked. How close are we? In December 2011 Tidings will be publishing its 300th issue. With all the recent — highly publicized — closures, this is the definition of a milestone. So during the next year we will be publishing several new features, including one called Eat, Drink, Live written by long time contributor and newly appointed contributing editor Rosemary Mantini. In the four-part series she’ll be looking at the wine regions of Bordeaux, New Zealand, Loire and Barolo in a new and exciting light. Look for the first instalment in February. We’ll also have the columns from Gurvinder Bhatia, Nancy Johnson and Tony Aspler that you’ve loved so much over the years. All of this will inch our way towards our 300th issue, December 2011/January 2012. You can be sure that we’ll be putting together something exciting in those pages. And when it comes to this page — from the editor — I thought I’d try something new. I’ll be asking our long time contributors and editors to chime in on whatever hits their fancy. Tidings has always been about the community and we’ll open this page their thoughts and what is important to them. The next time you’ll see me on this page will be next December. We’ll all be working tirelessly to make this a memorable year. I wish you all the best in 2011 and we’ll meet again soon in the pages of Tidings
