Joining a book club is a perfect way to meet new friends or spend more quality time with the ones you already have, and enjoy fabulous food and wine. Of course, the club provides the perfect setting to read and discuss a variety of great books. There are some ground rules, however.
Book clubs shouldn’t be too large or too small. A group of five to fifteen members is a good range. Make sure that everyone gets a chance to speak. People can feel uncomfortable offering opinions in a larger group, and sometimes one or two members of a group will dominate the conversation. One way to avoid those pitfalls is to allow every member of the group to offer an answer to each question. Another tip is to have someone keep notes during the discussion. If you need to refer back to someone’s ideas, you’ll know who spoke and exactly what she contributed. But, the most important rule is to have fun. Here are some websites that will help you get started.
