One thing became very clear as the weeks of the contest passed - Tidings readers are a creative bunch. Although maple syrup isn't produced in Western Canada, it is a quintessentially Canadian treat that can, at the very least, be purchased everywhere (or certainly should be). I would even argue that we don't use enough of it! Just think: maple syrup in your coffee or tea or in place of white or brown sugar in cakes, cookies and muffins. It's a food group, right? Maple syrup is certainly healthier than sugar because it contains more minerals and vitamins.
Alright, so I'm doing just a little bit of rationalizing here. All deserved, I think, don't you? It's been a part of our diet for practically forever, so why not thoroughly enjoy it every chance we can.
Good luck to all of those who entered the contest. We'll all find out who the winners are in September.
