Looking for something to do this weekend? How about heading to Vancouver and taking in the ever popular KitsFest? This fun event takes over Kitsilano beach, and is quickly becoming known as the hip and healthy Vancouver summer festival. The 3-day event celebrates active lifestyles and healthy living via a variety of competitive and recreational sports activities. In fact, this year's KitsFest will feature a new sport sanctioned by the US Tennis Association (USTA) - Beach Tennis hosted by Tennis BC. The KitsFest delivers free fun and entertainment for people from all walks of life.

Families and kids can enjoy the "Kids Zone" which includes games, obstacle courses, even a "Baseline Bistro" hosting some of Kitsilano's favourite local eateries. Actually, KitsFest is one of several very successful events that The Canada One Athletic Foundation (COF) hosts annually. Co-founder Julien Phipps notes, "KitsFest has actually been in the works for several years. It's rewarding knowing that the community and City have embraced it. As with our court donation, we look to challenge others to carry out similar efforts in their communities." The KitsFest concept was set in motion early in 2007 when two COF executives, Ron Putzi and Howard Kelsey donated state of the art resurfacing of the famous Kits' beach basketball courts.

The festival offers visitors a chance to sample great local fare. But, don't forget to visit the many wineries in and around the Vancouver area, too. Here we are nearing the end of a perfect summer, enjoying some wine, food and fun is a super way to top it all off.

KitsFest runs from 9AM-8PM daily, August 20th-22nd at Kitsilano beach in Vancouver.
