I know August 19th seems a long way away, but I wanted to give you a "heads up" because tickets for the first annual 2010 Winnipeg Summerfest are on sale now. If you live in the area or are planning a summer get-away, make a point to check this event out. Caribbean musicians, Beres Hammond and Inner Circle, will be headlining the event. Pratik Ruparell, of PDP Entertainment explains, "We want to take what we do at the world famous Reggae SumFest in Jamaica, and bring it to Winnipeg. This year is largely to test the market in the hopes that there will be enough interest to do this every year. We want to take it to the next level in 2011 and do an outdoor, two day festival of feel good music from the Caribbean and the rest of the world."
If you're not yet familiar with the music of Beres Hammond, you can view his video for his song, Rockaway, on Youtube. His music is light, danceable and reminiscent of 1960s Motown. Inner Circle is a popular reggae band with hits like "Sweat (A La La La La Long)" and the ever-popular "Bad Boys" (especially if you're a fan of the tv show "Cops"). Other musicians joining the party are Lenya Wilkes, Culture featuring Kenyatta hill and DJ Inferno. The mainstream reggae hits that these musicians will be performing are soulful ballads. Come out, relax and enjoy yourself for a while. Tickets for Winnipeg SummerFest are available at www.ticketmaster.com
