There’s nothing like enjoying the great outdoors with a great barbecue. Our Canadian summers just wouldn’t be the same without it. This year, make history by joining in the sixth annual World's Longest Barbecue(TM) party. On Saturday, August 1st at 6pm celebrate Canada's culinary bounty.
The event started in 2003 as a way to demonstrate support for Canadian Beef producers. But, with such a huge array of local meats, vegetables and fruits available across Canada, the even has grown with this year sure to be the biggest yet. "Canada has a long and wonderful culinary history," says Anita Stewart, author and culinary activist. "By joining our barbecues together, virtually of course, we are declaring our unconditional love for the wonderful food this nation produces and showing our support to the hard working Canadians who produce it."
Beef, chicken, seafood and all kinds of other meat producers can be found in every province. Eating local is as easy as making sure that what you’re buying is Canadian. By choosing home-grown products, you’re supporting your neighbours and Canada's economy. In fact, Canadian beef, alone, is the single largest source of farm cash receipts, totaling $6.6 billion in 2008. Beef, along with other locally produced meat products contribute more than $25 billion annually to our economy. Plus, Canadian grown products just taste so good.
So on August 1st at 6 pm, light your barbecues, start grilling and join us in making history in Canada with the World's Longest Barbecue(TM). Register your event at www.fooddaycanada.com and have lots of fun.
Here are some recipes to get you started.
